In his farewell address to his closest followers and friends, Jesus said he was leaving to make room for someone else to come and work in their lives. One translation of the word Jesus uses for this “someone else” is “the Companion” who is “the Spirit of Truth.” We’ve been talking about how Jesus calls each person to follow him, trust him, and be filled with the same Spirit that set Jesus on fire so that our gifts are ignited for our sake and the sake of the world. What can we learn from the fact that Jesus himself stepped aside to make room for the work of “the Companion, the Spirit of Truth”? And why does it matter that faith is more like companionship rather than compliance?
From Series: "On Fire: the Holy Spirit in Each Person"
When God created humankind, God placed a flame inside us. Jesus comes to show us what it looks like to live a life with more than a flickering flame. He comes to reveal to us God’s holy fire, to show us what it looks like to live a life completely on fire. Finally, he comes to prepare us to receive the same Spirit, the same Companion, the same Fire that fully set him on fire so that we will light up with the Glory that lights him up, so that we will be ignited in our unique place in the mission of God along with all of our brothers and sisters.
