The Search for Meaning, vol. 1: Is Everything Pointless?

Message at 33:15. Merriam-Webster describes the word “disillusionment” as “the condition of being dissatisfied or defeated in expectation or hope.” It’s not hard to feel disillusioned right now. Did you know there’s a book in the Bible that is like a diary of a person’s disillusionment? Throughout the book, the writer says something like, Nothing lasts! There’s nothing you can rely on! Everything is meaningless. We’re spending a few weeks in this book to follow this person’s frustrating yet worthy search for meaning… in a way that might help us in our search for wisdom and meaning in the midst of disappointment, frustration and feeling defeated in expectation or hope.

There's a unique book in the Bible where "the Teacher" (as he's known) says that everything is pointless. He's searched high and low for meaning--for something he can count on in this life--and he can't find anything. It's a book we can learn a lot from, especially in our current landscape.
