One of the most haunting things about being human is that we don’t know what we don’t know sometimes…until we meet someone like we haven’t known before and/or we go through an experience that helps us see what we didn’t know and still don’t know. When this happens, we can resist walking into the unknown and try to stay in what we think we know with all our might. Or, we can accept that God may be leading us into new territory that awakens us to who Jesus really is and to the untamable power of the Spirit. We’ll look at a story of the guy in the Bible who met someone like he’d never met before which made him see what he didn’t know (but assured he did know), and we’ll look at what he did about it.

When God created humankind, God placed a flame inside us. Jesus comes to show us what it looks like to live a life with more than a flickering flame. He comes to reveal to us God’s holy fire, to show us what it looks like to live a life completely on fire. Finally, he comes to prepare us to receive the same Spirit, the same Companion, the same Fire that fully set him on fire so that we will light up with the Glory that lights him up, so that we will be ignited in our unique place in the mission of God along with all of our brothers and sisters.
