Work and Rest, vol. 2: When Work Is a Blessing, When It's a Curse

Last week, we started talking about how God’s work produced people like you and me who are created to work and rest with God and like God–and Jesus came to restore us to work and rest like Jesus and with Jesus. We talked about how our identity does not equal our work and how our work does not equal our job. We’re going to keep exploring this expanded view of work, which includes our jobs, but isn’t fully defined by them. And we’re going to think practically about spheres where we do work. In all this, we’ll think about why and how work can be a blessing (like God in Genesis 1) and why and how it can become a curse (like we see in Genesis 4).

From Series: "Work and Life: the Purposeful, Balanced Life"

From the beginning, God creates humankind to work with God and like God and to rest with God and like God. A purposeful, balanced life is found in this. But it's easy to get out of sorts with work and rest. We do things like fuse our work with our identity. We miss out on the kind of deep, soulful rest that the Bible illustrates and Jesus embodied. In this series, we want to help people make their way back to working and resting with God and like God.
